Whale Shark Encounter

Swim and snorkel with the largest fish in the world!

Averaging about 40 feet long and weighing 15 tons you are able to face off with the ocean’s largest creature, the Whale Shark. Each year in Isla Mujeres these gentle giants visit June through September 15th. People are able to swim with these enormous fish in their natural setting where they typically congregate into groups up to about 20. In addition to the Whale Sharks snorkelers will also encounter huge manta rays and dolphins that share the waters during the migrations. This is an adventure you need to cross off your bucket list. Perfect for families, photographers, and adventure travelers.

Itinerary

Guy Harvey Outpost travel desk is happy to customize your whale shark adventure for independent travelers or groups up to 10. We do recommend that you have at least three days of snorkeling in case weather patterns interrupt the migration. Our most popular package is a 5 day / 4 night
adventure, which provide for three full days of swimming with the whale sharks. Some guests like to extend the number of days for either additional whale shark encounters or provide for lay day to enjoy the ruins or chill on the small Island of Isla Mujeres.

Day 1: Cancun, Mexico / Isla Mujeres

Arrive into Cancun airport, where you take a 20 minute cab ride to the Ferry Dock to Isla Mujeres. The high speed ferry will take you to the north end of Isla Mujeres where you can walk or take a bike cab to Playa La Media Luna, a Guy Harvey Outpost Expedition Property or Secreto Hotel .

Day 2-4: Whale Shark Encounte

Enjoy breakfast and head to Enrique Lima’s Marina to board the either the Lilly M or Andrea M for your whale shark encounter. The boats can hold up to 10 passengers providing a nice intimate encounter with the whale sharks in their natural setting. The boat ride can take up to a couple hours, so it is a full 7 hour daily adventure. Once the whale sharks are located swimmers are able to be within arm’s reach of them for several minutes at a time. Remember do not touch
them. Swimming with the whale sharks is not a high degree of physical fitness. You should be comfortable swimming around 200 feet and boarding the boat after
swimming with the whale shark.

Day 5: Depart for Cancun

Time to head home! Grab you gear and head to Cancun. While you are in the airport edit your video and photos to showoff to your friends. Don’t forget to #OutpostAttitude and let your friends know at Guy Harvey Outpost of your adventure.
