Ronald C. Modra was a Sports Illustrated photographer for 25 years. He has seventy SI covers to his credit and several of his photographs were selected forSports Illustrated’s 40 Best of All Time and The Century’s Best Sports Photos. He is also the two-time winner of the Baseball Hall of Fame’s Best Photo of the Year award.
He has shot covers for some 200 publications worldwide and contributed to dozens of publications including Time, Newsweek, People, National Geographic, Playboy, New York Magazine, TV Guide, Philadelphia and Parade to name a few.

Questions for Pro Ron Modra
Q: Your favorite subject to photograph?
A: At a certain point, I became enamored of the spoonbill. They became my favorite bird to photograph. They’re just cool-looking.
Q: Your favorite place to eat in St. Augustine?
A: Black Fly the Restaurant. The food and the atmosphere. And Vaughn Cochran is a great guy.
Q: Where in the world would you most like to shoot photos if money were no object?
A: I’ve not been to Africa and I’d love to photograph wildlife.
Q: What is your favorite thing to do when you’re not shooting photos?
A: Bonefishing. I just like the excitement of it. I’ve been bonefishing with my friend Richard Stanczyk for over 34 years.
Q: If you only had one camera to shoot wildlife photos, what would it be?
A: I would take my Sony camera and one lens–a 24-105mm.
Q: Who would you most like to take on a photo shoot?
A: My friend, singer/songwriter Ronnie Dunn. I’ve enjoyed watching him grow as a photographer.
